The food forestNatural farming

A farm planted in layers.

A food forest is a farm planted in layers, from vegetables to fruit to tall trees, so every visit has something to pick.

Three layers

Each layer does a job for the others.

Canopy

Tall trees

The canopy cools the ground, holds moisture and brings the birds in.

Banana and pepper

Banana gives shade and shelter; pepper climbs and fruits in the cover it makes.

Turmeric and vegetables

Close to the soil and quick to reward you. This is where most of the picking happens on a weekend visit.

Through the year

The farm changes with the seasons. So do your visits.

  1. Planting timeNew plants go in and the whole farm turns green within weeks.
  2. Long walksComfortable days for slow rounds of the farm with the team.
  3. Early morningsCome early, pick before the heat, and spend the afternoon in the shade of the canopy.

How we farm

Natural farming, from the farm's own inputs.

We practise natural farming with the farm's own microbial solutions and leaf extracts. The team keeps the ground covered and lets the layers protect each other. It takes patience, and it is why a visit here feels like walking through a living farm.

Questions about the food forest

What's growing and in season?

It depends on the season and when planting started. The farm is planted in layers, so there is usually something to see and pick. On your visit we'll show you what's ready on the farm right now.

How is the farm looked after?

We practise natural farming with the farm's own microbial solutions and leaf extracts. The on-site team keeps the ground covered and lets the layers protect each other. Ask the team to walk you through what they use when you visit.

Which seasons are best to visit?

Every season has something. The cooler months are the most comfortable for long walks, and the monsoon is when the farm turns green fastest.

Can I choose what's planted?

Plantation planning is part of the service. Tell us what you'd like to see growing and we'll discuss it with you.
